When Greenwich local Richard Mele left a career on Wall Street to pursue his dream of opening a restaurant, he had no idea it would eventually lead him to a successful career in the interior design industry. The successful opening of one restaurant was not enough for Richard, and, over time, a total of three were established, including one in Greenwich. Each of the restaurants were noted for incorporating elements of salvaged architectural pieces from residential estates and industrial buildings into simple and polished interiors, and he realized that his true calling might be in the area of design. This led to the opening of a small home boutique housed in a quaint carriage house in Greenwich. One of his first trade customers was Claire Maestroni, who had also just opened her own design business in Greenwich, and after a number of common ventures the two partnered up to open Mis en Scene. Their collaboration, fueled by a shared desire to seek out unique pieces of high quality materials and artisanal craftsmanship, has resulted in an ideal balance between the American and the European perspectives and the successful completion of countless design projects.
